[00:00:16] Jeff: Hey everybody, welcome to the initial episode of Subpar Talks. Thank you so much for listening. So what we're going to do here is give you just a little snippet regarding what this show is all about. We're going to give a little bit of background on each of us. So without further ado, here's Chris.
[00:00:35] Chris: Hi, I'm Chris. I work in IT have done that really, for my entire career in various capacities, but really, it kind of gives a little bit of insight to type of person, I am definitely technical, like to deal with a lot of information, data, and really have a very curious personality. So it kind of lends itself to, you know, really taking in as much information as possible, just kind of being a sponge for that information, and wanting to talk about and discuss all different types of things.
[00:01:12] Jeff: And I am Jeff, I am an attorney. Although I have not practiced law for a really long time. I am now a college professor. I've been doing that for quite a while. And I'm a person who loves gathering new information. I love disseminating that information. It's one of the reasons I like to teach. And it's one of the reasons I wanted to do this podcast. So what can you expect to get from us? Chris and I are both big believers in conversations do not have to be boring. We've all been stuck in boring conversations, and nobody wants those. We're believers in the fact that you can have conversations that are informative, they are entertaining, and they can even make you laugh, and you're going to learn something. So that's what you can expect with our show. So we're going to have an episode a week. Occasionally, we will have bonus episodes, but we will come to you with a topic or topics. And you'll notice our tagline is conversations about everything. And that is absolutely true. Nothing is really off the table. We will have things like pop culture, we'll talk about movies, music, TV, you know, those two topics that people say you're never supposed to discuss in polite company, religion and politics? Well, we're gonna blow that out of the water. We're gonna talk about that.
[00:02:34] Chris: And we're not PC anyway. So...
[00:02:36] Jeff: Oh, no, we're not. Don't expect us to be PC at all. No, we're gonna throw that out the window, as well. So, yeah, we're gonna have one episode a week, and many, many topics that we will bring to you. And we're gonna have a conversation about those and you're gonna learn something, you're gonna be enlightened, and you will laugh as well.
[00:02:59] Chris: So, you know, in in deciding that we wanted to do this for really asking the question, like, why are people gonna listen to us? You know, there's, there's a lot of people out there that are doing podcasts already. Some that may even have a similar format to their show of just people talking. Well, you know, we are really critical thinkers, we're both very curious, questioning, really about the world, our environment, the things that we come across, the news stories that we hear, whatever it happens to be. Fortunately, we both have very good memories. So we're able to recall that information and kind of relate it to other things. So when we talk about one topic, it's very normal for us to jump into other topics that may be related. And so, you know, that's really where we start to find that humor. And the irony is like, hey, this one thing happened over here, but look at how it happened in this other situation. And that's really where a lot of the the dialogue and discussion comes from, and where we end up entertaining ourselves along the way.
[00:04:08] Jeff: Absolutely. If there is humor and irony in something, then we're going to cover it. We can find humor in almost any topic, and you will occasionally or frequently hear a Seinfeld reference. So if you watch Seinfeld, you're gonna be in on that and you're gonna get it and if you don't understand the reference, then you need to start watching, like, it's the greatest show ever, so get on it.
